A unique conference in Europe where world-class security professionals meet and openly talk about security vulnerabilities and their own discoveries.
For the 10th time in a row, one of the oldest and largest conferences in Europe on Information Security will be held in Luxembourg on October 21-24 at Parc Hotel Alvisse. With more than 250 attendees from around 40 different countries, hack.lu has strongly positioned itself on the international security scene, while somehow keeping an intimate and community driven atmosphere.
Four full days of workshops, experts’ discussions and live demos
The 4 days conference will be organized around a number of workshop sessions and keynote speeches presented by renowned security professionals. The topics that will be covered range from malware analysis, phishing, reversing, data mining, cybercriminals, to mobile security and RFID, just to mention a few.
“The objective of such a conference is to enable security professionals to openly discuss about computer security, privacy, information technology and the various cultural and technical implications they may have. It is also a great way to share with the attendees the discovery of major vulnerabilities and security failures, with a focus on any information systems that can be potentially ‘hacked’, and to expose potential existing solutions”, explains Alexandre Dulaunoy, the co-organizer of hack.lu.
Highlight: the Capture The Flag contest
One of the main highlights of the conference is the Capture the Flag (CTF) contest that enrolled last year around 400 teams, each made of 1 to 20 people. CTF is a computer Security competition (http://2014.hack.lu/index.php/CaptureTheFlag) aiming to give participants experience in securing a machine, as well as conducting and reacting to real world type of attacks. This contest is designed like an educational exercise by the FluxFingers architects from the Ruhr-University Bochum. The teams that are engaged score on their success in defending the machine/network given to them and attacking the others. The topics that will be covered this year are around cryptography, web security, reverse engineering and forensics.
The Code Club Luxembourg will also organize on the Thursday evening a unique CoderDojo session in order to sensitize students and adults to software development, data manipulation and visualization, and hardware.
